As a naval “ship-driver” or Officer of the Deck I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the writing style of Robert Kolker. This fabulous depiction of life at sea in Kolker’s non-fiction piece reprinted in The Atavist Magazine recreated the smells and sounds from thirty years ago bringing back for me, and I’m certain for others, that rich naval experience.
